Understanding users and analyzing their needs are commonly required abilities for the research phase of the design process. However, researching real users is challenging for students in the early stage of the industrial design curriculum as they have little experience and limited training. This case study aims to help students become familiar with user research by analyzing simple fairytale stories, defining the character’s needs, and designing products to solve the problem based on their research. The goal is for students to
recreate the original story with out-of-the-box thinking, design products for the story's main characters, and enhance their creativity and storytelling skills through the Augmented Reality (AR) tool: Apple Reality Composer. This paper compiles data on the project results, processes, and student feedback collected from an industrial design drawing course involving 1st-year industrial design students.
