Federico Casalegno, PhD

Federico Casalegno, PhD is the head of Samsung Design Innovation Center (SDIC), in San Francisco, CA, and the head of the Next Generation Experience Planning Team in Seoul where he leads multidisciplinary teams to create disruptive user experiences and envision future products. He recently took an additional role as the Head of the Design Strategy Team in the Corporate Design Centre in Seoul, where he will create mid-to-long term future design strategies.

Before joining Samsung, Federico Casalegno, MIT Associate Professor of the Practice, founded and directed of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT Design Lab, and MIT Mobile Experience Lab. He also worked at Motorola, Inc. and Philips Design, where he envisioned and created innovative product experiences.

Federico Casalegno holds a Ph.D. in Sociology of Culture and Communication from the Sorbonne University, Paris V, with a focus on mediated communication and social interaction in networked communities and smart cities. Federico Casalegno, designer, innovator and social scientist focuses on the impact of networked digital technologies on human behavior and society, and design products, services and experiences to improve people’s lives.

He has been awarded honorary professorships by the Glasgow School of Art, University of Glasgow and the Jiangnan University School of Design in Wuxi, China. He has published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, books and articles, and he has been awarded for his design and innovation work.
